Overview

livematrix is a Software based intercom and talkback system, allowing fine granular control over who can talk and listen to whom, as well as easy integration into external audio sources and other intercom systems.

The core concepts of livematrix are:

  • Users
  • Groups
  • Party Lines
  • Keys
  • Profiles
  • Bridges

The core entities in livematrix are users.

Users are people participating in conversations within livematrix.

With the appropriate permissions, users can listen to and communicate with other users in the system.

Users can connect to livematrix via an app (Web, Desktop, Mobile), external audio interfaces such as Dante intercom hardware, or integrated third-party intercom systems such as Riedel, Clear-Com, RTS, Hollyland, and Green-GO.

Keys are the the way users selects to whom they talk or listen to. A key is always linked to one target. The different target types are:

  • Another user
  • Party line
  • Group
  • Audio feed

Keys have a listen button and a talk button. The admistator can enable or disable both independently. That means that that there are 3 types of keys:

  • Talk and Listen
  • Listen-only
  • Talk-only

When interacting with a touch screen, to talk or listen to the target of key the user needs to keep pressed the talk or listen button of the key. To latch them swipe over the button. Latching means that the listen or talk is permanently on, so the user continously talks to the target or continously listens to the target. Multiple keys can be latched at the same time. Talk and listen latching of one key are completly independant.

When interacting with a mouse a long click triggers a momentary action, a simple click toggles the latching state of the key.

Keys where the target is a user, work like this: When a user activates the talk mode of a key, the audio of the user is always sent to the target user, no matter if the target user has the listen mode activated or not. The same is true with the listen mode. When a user has the listen mode on for key, they will always hear the audio of the target user, no other if the target user has the listen mode on or not.

A Party Line is a channel where user talk and listen into. Users only hear the audio talked into the party line when they have the listen mode on for this party line.

Groups are a pre-defined set of users. Group keys work similarly to direct user keys, but they target multiple users at the same time. Group user keys can be used when some users need to talk to multiple users at the same time and the receiving users should not have the option to disable this audio.

Administators configure a set of specific keys in different profiles. Every user gets a profile assigned, which defines the keys they see.

Keys can be organized into sections.

Users can connect via the web-app to livematrix by opening the server URL in the browser. For better native support, native apps are available for iOS, Android, MacOS, Windows and Linux.

A user can be logged in on different devices at the same time. The key state is shared among all devices. This can be used to interact with the keys on a different device, than your audio device is connected.

Multiple devices can receive audio at the same time, but the microphone can only be active on one device at the same time.

Bridges allow administators to integrate external audio devices into livematrix. The bridge connects audio flows from livematrix with an audio interface, like an analog audio interface, Dante Virtual Soundcard or a physical Dante interface. When the audio interface is connected to the livematrix server, the emebded bridge can be used. The bridge can also be installed on a separate computer, even in a different network, to connect to audio interfaces not connected directly to the livematrix server.

External hardware panels (Stream Deck, X-Keys) via Bitfocus Companion

Section titled “External hardware panels (Stream Deck, X-Keys) via Bitfocus Companion”

To simplify the usage of keys, external hardware buttons can be used like a Stream Deck or a X-Keys panel.

The configuration of the panel is done via Bitfocus Companion.

  • As a administor: install, first configuration
  • As a user: login, talk and listen
